Infant and maternal health strengthening

Fondation Jos et Mimieke

Reinforcing the knowledge and capacities of local health workers in their treatment of pregnant women and newborns

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, maternal and infant mortality rates are high. Yet, it is possible to lower these rates with appropriate monitoring during the pregnancy period and after delivery of the newborn, but also by providing clean and safe conditions of child delivery.

This project aims to improve the capacity of medical centers to treat pregnant women and to handle deliveries. This will reduce the deaths of mothers, infants and children less than 5 years of age. The project also aims at educating people in the region about the risk signs in pregnant women and regarding the importance of healthy habits. It further covers trainings with the purpose of preventing disabilities in newborns and also provides care for those children who are born with disabilities.
