Advancing Youth Integration Through Sustainable and Social Economy Careers

A new school in France’s Moselle region aims to promote careers related to the ecological transition and the social economy, while promoting the socio-professional integration of unemployed young people toward new opportunities.

The ETRE Moselle School of Ecological Transition works to support young people aged 16 to 25 who have dropped out of school or are unemployed towards sustainable social and professional integration, through the discovery and learning of manual trades related to ecological transition. It forms part of the national ETRE (Les Écoles de la Transition Écologique) network, a collective of schools across France that support 16–25-year-olds who are far from employment or traditional education. Built on a proven pedagogical model, the network promotes learning through practice, personal development, and immersion in the manual professions that drive the ecological transition.

As a newly accredited member, ETRE Moselle benefits from shared expertise, tools for impact measurement, and a strong community of practitioners. Students have the opportunity to participate in courses that aim to restore confidence, awaken vocations and open up realistic prospects for career guidance or professional engagement in promising, useful sectors that are aligned with environmental issues. Through an active, hands-on teaching approach, young people can rediscover a dynamic of learning, autonomy and cooperation at a local community level, while allowing them to overcome socio-professional barriers by forging links with an ecosystem of professional stakeholders.

In this rural territory, where no similar offer previously existed, ETRE Moselle aims to create new opportunities for young people seeking direction or reintegration. The PwC Foundation Luxembourg's support was critical in helping to launch the ETRE network's expansion into the Grand Est.
