Ukraine: The war one year on

One year into the war in Ukraine, the Fondation de Luxembourg, alongside the greater philanthropic sector, reconfirms its solidarity with the people of Ukraine and their fight for security and peace.

On February 24th, 2022, the world watched in shock as Russia launched a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, destroying cities and forcing millions of Ukrainians from their homes. The resulting catastrophic humanitarian crisis which, according to the UNHCR, displaced more than 13 million people, the war in Ukraine has profoundly affected global energy supplies and food security in areas reaching far beyond the conflict zones.

At the outbreak of the war, the Fondation de Luxembourg expressed its full support of the Ukrainian people by launching the Ukraine Solidarity Foundation under its aegis to mobilize donations toward Ukraine and surrounding areas and for refugees arriving in Luxembourg. Today, foundations under its aegis and external donors continue to step up for the benefit of Ukrainian refugees by supporting projects such as providing emergency medical care and equipment for those fleeing war zones, as well as accommodation and psychological support for refugees arriving in Luxembourg. Other projects supported include providing legal assistance, protections for women and children, as well as offering direct financial assistance to cover the basic needs of individuals and families who left everything behind.

With Ukraine ravaged by war, the country will continue to require significant and prolonged assistance before it can rebuild. The Fondation de Luxembourg, alongside the greater philanthropic sector, reconfirms its solidarity with the people of Ukraine and stands behind them in their fight for security and peace.
