For young musicians, the transition from formal training to professional artistic life depends on opportunities to rehearse, perform and collaborate at a high level. The Orchestre National des Jeunes du Luxembourg (ONJ) was created to provide this bridge, bringing together talented young musicians from Luxembourg and the Greater Region in orchestral projects designed to develop both their artistic practice and professional experience.
In summer 2026, the ONJ took this approach onto the European stage through a tour combining intensive preparation, public performance and international exchange. After a residency in Luxembourg, the orchestra performed locally before travelling to the Netherlands and Germany. The tour also included exchanges with other youth orchestras and culminated in a performance at Young Euro Classic in Berlin, giving participants the opportunity to experience the pace, discipline and expectations of an international orchestral tour.
The programme combined established repertoire with contemporary creation, including the world premiere of a new work commissioned by the ONJ from a young Luxembourgish composer. Together, these elements made the tour both a performance project and an opportunity for learning, collaboration and artistic development.
The PwC Foundation Luxembourg supported the costs associated with the ONJ’s 2026 summer tour, with particular support for the Berlin performance. By helping young musicians take their work from rehearsal rooms in Luxembourg to international concert halls, the project offers practical experience of professional orchestral life while contributing to the visibility of a new generation of Luxembourg-based musicians abroad.
