Each year, the Enovos Foundation awards the “Excellence Award” for the best engineering theses.

At the 11th edition held this Friday, six graduates were honoured for the quality of their Master’s work.

October 28, 2022 – The current energy crisis has once again made it clear: there is an urgent need for innovative and sustainable solutions, particularly in the energy sector. Developing strong engineering skills is key to tackling both present and future challenges.

Since its creation in 2010 under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg, the Enovos Foundation has made scientific research and support a central focus. It was in this spirit that the “Prix d’Excellence” was launched in 2012 to promote engineering studies and careers. Each year, in partnership with the “Ingénieurs et Scientifiques du Luxembourg” and ANEIL (National Association of Engineering Students in Luxembourg), the prize rewards outstanding Master’s theses. Over the past decade, 67 laureates have been honoured with this €2,500 award.

This year, an independent jury of engineers reviewed 15 submissions and selected the 6 best projects.

The award ceremony was held in the presence of: Jean Lucius (President, Fondation Enovos), Erik von Scholz (CEO, Enovos Luxembourg), Christian Zeyen (Ingénieurs et Scientifiques du Luxembourg), Lisa Schweig (President, ANEIL), Prof. Aline Muller (CEO, LISER), Michel Pundel (President of the jury).

The 2022 laureates:

  • Michel Paulus: Hydrogen technology in the energy transition and sector coupling – Feasibility study based on a gas grid of energis-Netzgesellschaft mbH
  • Matthieu Assa: Real-time task identification in manual assembly steps using neural network-based object detection
  • Laurent André: Prediction of unsteady flow using physics-informed deep learning methods
  • Axel Diriken:Integration of the SMR Technology into the Belgian Energy Mix: A Cost Optimisation Approach
  • Andreia Alves: Development of a standardized methodology for the systematic, effect-related investigation of photocatalysts
  • Thomas Weyland: Performance analysis of 5G mobile networks as illuminator of opportunity for passive radar
