Supporting and providing exhibition platforms for emerging artists is essential to nurturing a dynamic and resilient national art scene. Such opportunities not only help individual artists build sustainable careers, but also stimulate cultural innovation by introducing fresh perspectives and diverse voices into the broader artistic dialogue.
In response to the limited presence of young Luxembourgish artists at Luxembourg Art Week, the local association responsible for Take Off, the fair’s dedicated section for emerging talent, decided to create a booth exclusively for early-career artists from Luxembourg. This initiative enabled 13 Luxembourgish artists to present their work alongside 80 local and international galleries and to reach an audience of approximately 17,000 visitors, significantly increasing their professional visibility.
Curated by Danielle Igniti, Tropismes drew upon the metaphor of plants turning toward light to grow, highlighting artists who, similarly, harness their inner drive to reach outward and draw strength from their surroundings. The exhibition offered visitors an intimate insight into each artist’s universe through two emblematic works, revealing the diversity and vitality of contemporary artistic practice in Luxembourg. The featured artists included: Robin Bigret, Elshan Rozafa, Lisa Kohl, Jil Lahr, Nathalie Lesure, Alex Macedo, Jeremy Palluce, Armand Quetsch, Letizia Romanini, Marc Schroeder, Eric Schumacher, Alexandra Uppman, and Daniel Wagener.
By providing early-career artists with opportunities to exhibit their work in high-profile contexts, such initiatives foster critical visibility, professional development, and confidence. In doing so, they encourage artistic experimentation and help ensure the continued growth, relevance, and international standing of the national art scene.
