Fondation de Luxembourg welcomes the Fondation Georges Backes under its aegis

The Fondation de Luxembourg has welcomed under its aegis the Fondation Georges Backes, a dormant foundation created by the Luxembourg tenor which, when active, will establish a Johann Sebastian Bach Festival in Luxembourg and the surrounding regions.

Although Georges Backes had an international career around the globe while singing under the baton of eminent conductors such as John Eliot Gardiner or Leopold Hager, he maintained strong ties with his Luxembourg roots, sharing with a great number of students his passion for singing, artsong interpretation and music history as a professor at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg and Miami University.

The Johann Sebastian Bach Festival will bring together the orchestra “Solistes EuropĂ©ens Luxembourg”, internationally renowned choirs and promising young soloists to perform together the vocal works of the great Johann Sebastian Bach. The Fondation Georges Backes aims for this festival to become a regular event on Luxembourg’s cultural scene.
