Improving access to safe water and sanitation in Yemen

Maßvoll Stiftung

The Maßvoll Stiftung is supporting the WASH program, part of a larger UNICEF emergency relief program, which contributes to hygiene and clean water initiatives in the wake of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Clean water supply and sanitation systems have been severely compromised by the conflict in Yemen, a problem now exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost 18 million people do not have access to proper sanitation, hygiene assistance or clean water sources. Among those affected, refugees and children are particularly vulnerable to diseases like cholera, due to an already weakened immune system.

The Maßvoll Stiftung, through their support of WASH initiatives, is providing access to safe water for an estimated 35.500 adults and children. The projects include both short- and long-term solutions including the rehabilitation and maintenance of water supply and sanitation projects, the distribution of basic hygiene kits in compliance with social distancing guidelines and the introduction of solar-powered water supply systems in rural areas.
