Tond Tenga agricultural school in Burkina Faso

Training of agents to promote an ecological approach to farming

The rural sector is undoubtedly one of the main growth drivers of the economy in Burkina Faso. However, Burkina Faso agriculture is characterized by intensive use of chemicals. The use of these products is questionable from an ecological, economic, and sustainability point of view. Since young people between 15 and 25 years of age represent 24.1% of the population, they play an important role in the sustainable development of their communities.

Through its support, Fondation Olivier aims at training agents of the Tond Tenga Agricultural School, located in the peripheral area of the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou. The school, which covers seven hectares, includes a boarding school, classrooms, dormitories, sanitary facilities, stables and gardens. The intention is to train 80 disadvantaged young people for two years in the field of organic farming and breeding. The aim is that, the young students will, afterwards, return to their native villages, become financially autonomous, and transmit their new skills to the local population
