Supporting a Luxembourgish doctor in his research in neurosurgery

Nucleic acid-based treatments, such as gene therapy and genome editing, offer considerable potential for treating complex brain disorders, such as brain tumors and neurodegenerative diseases. However, the blood-brain barrier represents a major obstacle, limiting the diffusion of therapeutic agents into the brain.

For a young Luxembourgish doctor, this challenge is at the heart of his independent research project. Thanks to a grant, the doctor will receive support for his studies as he undertakes this research within the context of his neurosurgery residency at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris.

Once completed, the research project, which aims to develop a combined strategy to improve the administration of nucleic acids, will be published in a specialised journal.
