Support for the play “Eichmann,” which explores the role of Robert Eichmann in the Nazi extermination through a theatrical performance at the National Theatre of Luxembourg.
Although the Holocaust took place nearly a century ago, antisemitism and other forms of ethnoreligious violence still persist today. As the number of direct witnesses continues to decline over time, it is crucial to ensure that the horrific extermination of millions of Jewish men, women, and children — along with other minority groups — is neither forgotten nor ever repeated.
The play “Eichmann”, co-written by Serge Wolfsperger and Gilles Guelbaum, was born from the stories told by Guelbaum’s grandfather, a survivor of Auschwitz. When he spoke to his family about that harrowing experience, he said: “Even I can hardly believe it myself.”
Through an investigation conducted like a police and journalistic inquiry into Eichmann’s actions and responsibilities, driven by his belief in Nazi ideology, the theatrical project seeks to question the involvement of one man in one of the darkest chapters of human history.
“Eichmann” was presented at the National Theatre of Luxembourg, with its final performance coinciding with International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, 2022. The play is scheduled to be staged in France and potentially in Germany during the 2022–2023 season.
Educational events will be organized, including school workshops and a public debate with historians, philosophers, and others, focusing on the themes and topics addressed in the performance.
Guided by its mission to promote the development of thought and knowledge, as well as education and artistic creation, the Mazalbert Foundation is supporting the production costs of this play.
