Prix Jacques Toledano 2020

Die Jacques Toledano-Stiftung - ABGESCHLOSSEN

Created in 2020 by the Institut Weizmann des Sciences France and supported by the Jacques Toledano Foundation, the Prix Jacques Toledano awards a post-doctoral fellow from a French laboratory with financial assistance.

In 2020, the Prix Jacques Toledano was awarded to Siyi Yu, a young doctoral student specializing in the application of theoretical physics research for the medical field. She will carry out her postdoctoral research with the “Polytechnique-Weizmann” laboratory at the Wiezmann Institute of Science in Israel, directed by Professor Victor Malka.

Siyi Yu graduated with a Master of Engineering from the École Nationale Supérieur des Techniques Avancées and is preparing her doctorate at the Laboratoire d’Optique Appliquée at the Ecole Polytechnique. She will complete her thesis work this year.

The VHEE (Very High Energy Electron) for innovative cancer treatment project, led by the Weizman Institute of Science in Israel, will allow her, as part of her post-doctorate, to connect her previous experience in theoretical physics, such as electrons acceleration, with real applications in the medical sector, in particular in the area of radiotherapy cancer treatment.

Born in China, and naturalized French, she has studied and worked in China, France and the United States.

The Prix Jacques Toledano is awarded annually to one or more laureate(s) selected by the Scientific Council set up by the Weizmann Institute of Science - France for the benefit of the Fondation Jacques Toledano. Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Have prepared their doctorate in a French laboratory
  • Speak and know how to work in French and English
  • Be the first author of at least one scientific article, published or accepted (attach the letter of acceptance) in an international journal (with reading committee)
  • Successfully defend a doctoral thesis in science before the end of 2020.

Laureats receive an endowment of twenty thousand euros (€20.000).
